Relevance of Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS)
"Ion Ionescu de la Brad" Publishing House is located in Iasi at 3, Mihail Sadoveanu Alley and was created since
1998 within the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Iaşi, according to the approval
given by the Ministry of Culture no. 4509/25.11.1997. It does not have juridical personality or limited activity.
"Ion Ionescu de la Brad" Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS) is an open
autonomous institution of higher education with juridical personality. It is an European institution in continuous
development and modernization, which observes the regulations of the Constitution of Romania and of the education
legislation.
The agricultural education from Iaşi has its beginnings in the first half of the XIX-th century, when, during
1842-1848, the first great Romanian agronomist, Ion Ionescu de la Brad teaches the first courses of agriculture at
the Mihaileană Academy. As a result of the measures taken by a group of enthusiastic professors, on May 2,
1905 the Senate of the University of Iaşi adopted unanimously (and later, the Ministry of Culture approved)
setting up the chairs of Agricultural Chemistry and Technological Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences. The year of
birth of the agricultural university education of Iaşi is 1912, when by the Law of Higher Education, published
in the Official Gazette on 27 March, the Section of Agricultural Sciences was set up at the Faculty of Sciences
from the University of Iaşi, where eminent professors were like Haralamb Vasiliu, Agricola Cardas, Ioan Burcea,
Autonom Georgescu and Ion Constantineanu.
In 1948, by the Order of the 3rd August and the Decision of the Ministry of Education 26237/24 October, in
Iaşi was set up the Agronomical Institute with the Faculty of Agro-technique (that became the Faculty of
Agriculture). In 1951, the Faculty of Horticulture and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry were created, while in 1961,
the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was created. After numerous changes of the name and the academic organization,
since 1990 the old Agronomic Institute was known until May 2021 under the name of "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" University
of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Iaşi and includes the Faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture,
Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry.
Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS) has known in the last 10 years a
progressive dynamics, by the development of new specializations within the existing faculties:
- Faculty of Agriculture (Specializations: Agriculture, Montanology, Economic Engineering in Agriculture, Technology of Processing the Agricultural Products and Biology);
- Faculty of Horticulture (Specializations: Horticulture, Landscape Science, Environmental Engineering);
- Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Specializations: Animal Husbandry, Pisciculture and Aquaculture, Engineering and Management in Public Alimentation and Agri-tourism, Food Control and Expertise;
- Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Specialization: Veterinary Medicine).
The main goal of Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS) is education and
research in the following fields: agriculture, economic engineering, food engineering, biology, horticulture,
animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS) is a member of:
- AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie);
- EUA (European University Association);
- Founding member of IAESTE Romania (The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience).
The spreading system is developed in its own network (own bookshop).
